Let's Start Here!

Why did I start this company? The real question is... how far back should I take you and how much should I tell? I've decided if my story can help someone, then I must tell it.

I was 4 when I was molested by a family member. The abuse got more intense as I grew up into my adolescent years and ceased when I was 16. I harbored so much stress, bitterness, self-hatred, anger, rage etc... Yet, I loved my this family member. I grew up wounded... and learned to survive. I carried all kinds of deranged thinking into my marriage (1990). Divorced in 2009 and still learning.

About 10 years ago, I set out on a journey of forgiveness. It was not an easy road - and sometimes I think I'm still on it, though it's not as bumpy.

Harboring feelings of hate and bitterness is NOT HEALTHY. In fact it's the opposite. Even the bible says that bitterness is like rot to the bones. I've always wanted to inquire about the life of someone that has osteoporosis. What happened in their life?

Here are some facts:

Prolonged elevated cortisol levels can have detrimental effects on bone tissue and increases the risk of osteoporosis. Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands in response to stress. However, when cortisol levels remain elevated for extended periods, it can have negative consequences on bone tissue. Elevated cortisol levels:

  • promote the breakdown of bone

  • increase the rate of bone resorption (where old bone is broken down faster than new bone is formed)

  • inhibit the activity of osteoblasts, which are cells responsible for bone formation

  • interferes with Calcium absorption (calcium is cruical for bone strength

Sharp, B., RN BSN (2023). Cortisol and Bone Health

All of the above contribute to osteoporosis. There are many methods of managing stress. Exercise, medications, and therapy are a few. BUT, why "manage" it? Would you manage a thief in your home? NO! You would do anything you could to incapacitate him/her. Your ultimate goal would be to get them out - at whatever cost. But we don't treat our health in this way. There are important vitamins and minerals that are crucial to restoring our health and there are imbalances within our bodies that are paving the way to disease.

In conducting my own research in 2015, I came across an article in-which a study was conducted to measure cortisol levels (at strategic times) during non stressful times vs stressful times.

Dr. Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, a psychologist, said a study of 90 newlywed couples showed that marriage arguments were particularly damaging to women. In the study, the couples were put into a room together with blood sampling needles in their arms. The blood samples could be taken at intervals without the subjects knowing it. A researcher then interviewed the couples and intentionally promoted a discussion that aroused disagreement and argument. “The couples were at a point in their marriage when they should be getting along well, when there should be little hostility,” said Dr. Kiecolt-Glaser. Yet, samples taken during the disagreements showed that the women experienced sudden and high levels of stress hormones, just as if they were in a fight or flight situation of great danger. The women also had steeper increases than the men. The test continued through an overnight hospital stay and more blood samples were taken just before discharge. For the men, the blood hormone levels were back to normal, but the women still had high levels.

Ponder that.

According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, worldwide, one in three women over the age of 50 will experience osteoporotic fractures, while the ratio for men is one in five. https://www.osteoporosis.foundation/health-professionals/about-osteoporosis/epidemiology

For many, the future is bleak when it comes to health. Many will lose hope and give in to the disease. I'm telling you there is a BETTER WAY. A way of wholeness - a way of restoration! When choosing a name for my company, I thought hard about "What am I about?" I came up with a word: Therapeuo. Therapeuo: Greek: [2323 (therapeúō), the root of "therapy" and "therapeutic," usually involves natural elements in the process of healing. 2) ] therapeúō – properly, heal, reversing a physical condition to restore a person having an illness (disease, infirmity) I absolutely believe it is possible to return to health. I may take time - we didn't get in these health positions overnight. Please be encouraged, there is a way to be restored. Let's find it together!
